The Waiting Game

Day 7

So the next step will be the foundation.  Those guys aren't scheduled to start until June 10.  So we are in a holding pattern.  However, we have been warned that someone could stop by at any moment and take down the story poles and the porch.   I'll have more news the next time something exciting happens, which could be a while.

And we have . . . stairs.

Day 5

Isn't it amazingly beautiful!  Okay, no big deal here but at least we have use of our stairs now.

This is what we will be using for the next 6 months until they finish the stairs.  I think the next thing that is going to happen is that they have to saw through about 8 inches of concrete to create the door way.  I hope they do that during the workday because I don't want to listen to it.  It's going to drive our next door neighbor crazy.

And We're Back!

Day 4

Making progress.  Carpenter was ill but he is well again.
The stairs used to be angled but now there has to be a landing because there is going to be a door on the left wall opening to the outside.

I'm a bit sad for the delay because it means we are going to have to walk outside to get upstairs the whole weekend.  This doesn't bode well for the patience clock.

Nothing Much Going On

Day 2

Carpenter was ill today so things look like this:

Looks a lot like yesterday.  I was hoping to have use of the stairway by the weekend.  We'll see.

But the good news is the contractor has all the permits!  Yay.  Our days, or rather day, of illegal building are over.  The permitting process was a long journey and that's a story too long and boring to recount here.   Ask me about it someday, if you need a story to put you to sleep.

Patience Clock.

Day 1

Dr. Ed Revelli said, "Don't start your patience clock until construction has actually begun."  Patience clock has started!  Let's see how long it is until it all runs out.

The porta-potty is here.  That makes it official!

And damage has been done.  That makes it double-official.

There was only one carpenter but I think we will get to know him very well as he will probably always be present when any work is being done.

I blogged two days in a row!   Don't get used to it.

The Carpenters are Coming! The Carpenters are Coming!

Day 0

We still don't have permits but we don't care!  We just do what we want.  Tomorrow the carpenters are coming to work on the stairs inside of the house.  "But why, good sir?", you might be asking.  The downstairs has only two access points, the back patio door and the stairs.  If we do the stairs first, then we will have access to downstairs during the entire construction and we won't have to empty our closet or the kids' room, or the downstairs bathroom.  The alternative was all four of us living in the upstairs living room (yup, that would have meant NO bedrooms).  However we will be inconvenienced for just the week that the stairs is being done as we will have to go downstairs via the driveway outside but it's been warm so I think we'll be okay.

So exciting!

Don't worry, I'm going to get better at this blog thing and I will post pics.  I'm expecting lots of UNconstructive critism from a certain someone named Angela.
