Halloween Mask

Day 162

Since it's All Hallows' Eve it's only appropriate that the house get a mask.

They put the second layer of stucco on the east side.

They also did the area around the new door.   Maybe they'll catch the north wall tomorrow and that'll be it.

Some walls on the inside also got a treatment too.

New wall at the base of the stairs.

The stairwell.

And the guest room.

There are parts of the house that are only 3 steps away from being finished.  Need to push for the finish line now.

Trimming This And That

Day 161

They put up some trim around some windows and doors today.

I saw this one in the office.

 Then the sliding door.

The pocket door too.

 And . . . wait for it . . . the bedroom window.

Trim and wainscoting!  This is getting exciting!

Looks like they are also going to do more tomorrow as there are stacks of wood by each of the windows upstairs.

Things should look even better tomorrow.

Just When You Thought It Was Done . . . The Plastic Creeps In Even More

Day 160

So the plastic has once again encroached some more on our space.

It not so bad except that it now blocks direct access to the bathroom!  I hope I don't have to go in the middle of the night.

They're smoothing out the walls with another layer of joint compound starting with the ceiling.  Notice how you can hardly see the drywall on the ceiling anymore.  They are going to do that to all the new walls.

That is the backboard for the wainscoting that will go on that wall.  I would highly suggest this for anyone's bedroom as it solved a lot of electrical conundrums due to the fact that the lower part of that wall was solid concrete.

Finally, they had to run a duct through our storage closet.  They are going to wall it in so that we can stack stuff on and around it without damaging it.

Smoothing Out The Creases

Day 157

So they put in the last two doors.

Guest room closet.

Downstairs closet.

They also put another layer of mud on all the seams.  The darker part is the wet stuff.

They let the mud dry for a couple of days before they came back and put another layer on.  All the seams are wider now but they are smoother.

Open Doors

Day 156

They started the interior doors today.  Again by room.

The pantry.

The storage closet.

The bedroom.

I don't think they got to this one, for the closet, yet.

They also had to extend this wall because code says it has to go as far as the stairs.

There are only a few big things left to do like tile, floors, cabinets, and the deck.  But there are about a million small things left to be done.  I see the light at the end of the tunnel but it is just a small speck in the distance.

My Name Is Mud

Day 155

Today was one of those days where LOTS of work was done but it makes for boring pictures.

They put the foundation layer for the stucco on the outside.

Yes, they did the whole house but I didn't want to post 10 pictures that looked about the same.

And they taped and mudded the walls inside.

Again, they did all the walls and were here quite late.  I could have posted about 20 pics of this but I didn't want to put you to sleep.

The Celing Is Disappearing . . . Again!

Day 154

This ceiling just can't keep its clothes on.  Yesterday, it was sealed.  Today it looks like this.

That's because the sprinkler guys were here today.  I'm not sure which step in their process this is but they capped all the spouts.

Some had yellow.  Some had red.  Not sure what the difference is.

Downstairs doors were being framed.

And finally, there's a big pile of stuff in front of the house.

Looks like sand and cement for the stucco.

Fast And Furious Part 2

Day 153

I thought they did a lot of work on Friday but they did even more work today!  Here's the list.

The guestroom.

The kitchen.

The hallway.

The pantry.

The dining room.

The living area.

The stairway.

The room at the bottom of the stairs (remember the ceiling that slowly diappeared?).

The vent enclosure in the hallway.

The vent enclosure in the laundry room.

The vent enclosure in the bedroom.

The downside to all the progress is this.

See that layer of drywall dust on the ground?  My nose and my lungs don't like it.

Fast And Furious

Day 150

Hmm.  Day 150.  Feels like it should be a milestone of some sort.  They did a lot of visible work today.  See if you recognize the rooms.

Answers:  All downstairs.

#1 Bathroom

It's really looking more like a house now rather than a construction zone.

Just One Thing

Day 149

They only did one thing today.

The window showed up and they installed it!  I know what you're thinking but the glass is obscured so that you can't see in or out. That's the inside.  And this is the outside.

They even trimmed and sealed the window so this will not delay the stucco.

Aside from that, they sawed a lot of wood.  I think that's all to trim the interior for all the windows.

They also have a lot of this.

Here's a close up.

I know they have to put up a lot of drywall but that just seems like an inordinate amount of joint compound.  I guess that's why I work with computers and they build the houses.

They did this a few days ago but here's a shot of the vaulted ceiling with the insulation.  I guess it's made to keep heat in.

Maybe we should leave it like that and put up some lights and a disco ball.
